2024 Goals & Faves

haitangkittyThere are still some days left of the year but I decided to do the year recap now. One year ago i set myself some fandom goals. Let's see how I've done:
Goals for 2025
I know fandom is for fun and setting goals might seem weird but I wanted to broaden my taste and find more interesting works. I did succeed in that. I think I know now better what I like.
- Read less with more intention: I did accomplice this too well because I didn't read much this year 😭 I started many books but most of them are unfinished. I definetly want to read more next year but my concentration/mental health hasn't been good. I think unfortunately I've read more self help than fiction. Which is stupid because none of those self help books taught me anything I don't know and fiction has always comforted me more.
- Reread faves and fanfiction: I've been reading more fanfics this year! I don't binge read many fics but I like to pick few longer fics to concentrate on.
- Read/Watch vintage BL and GL: I did watch Kaze to ki no uta and Rose of Versailles(well it's a shoujo actually). I really liked both!
- Play queer games: Last spring I played lot of indie queer visual novels! I still have a few I want to try out.
- Collection: I haven't bought that much to my collection this year because collecting manga and danmei is so expensive. But I did found the BL Crimson Spell 1-4 for 10e!
- Curating fandom spaces: Most important thing is that I deleted twitter. My favorite danmei creators weren't posting that much anymore and got lost in the algorithm. The whole app caused me so much rage and anxiety anyway. I haven't seen or participated in anti vs pro shipping discourse for a long time which is nice. I feel like I've really dealt with internalized shame a lot this past year and I've finally come to a place where I don't care what other people think/how freaky I am.
- Fan events: I only went to one con this year but I did go to 2 kpop concerts and 2 kpop clubs! That was fun. I found GL and kpop online communities this year which I'm grateful for.
- Music! Kpop and Jpop! Le sserafim and Stray Kids! Soundtrack: All About Lily Chou Chou
- Films: Drive-Away Dolls, Challengers, I saw the TV Glow, Ballerina. Older films: A Bride for Rip Van Winkle, One Million Yen Girl, Crash
- Series(BL&GL): Pit Babe, Chaser Game W, Blank, Moonlight Chicken, Meet you at the blossom and new ongoing BL The Heart Killers
- I got into omegaverse this year and it's been fun :D
- New fave manhwa: Toxin! I loved Painter of the Night and this is also toxic historical bl with a beautiful art style. This is even more sexier and toxic than Potn which I love.
- Past month I've actually been more into fluff and I want to read more high school romance (which I previously hated). I think I've read too much hurtxcomfort, horror films, toxic romance etc. i need some change.

- Finish my 2 fics... I didn't write at all this year. I just didn't have the inspiration. I've taken a pause from danmei fandom but I do miss it.
- Reread 2ha once the official translation is complete
- I wanna get back to K-drama and C-drama
- I want to read Nana
- Part of me wants to watch so many shows on my watchlist and part of me just wants to watch my old faves (The Untamed, Strangers from Hell, Kinnporsche)

kpop fandom is how i overcame shame too but that was a different time in fandom discourse than now. now i'm just... not finding that community anywhere except DW kind of.
doing a fandom recap and fandom focus areas is so cool though. i still don't know what my yearly recap format is going to be but i want to include a fandom section

Yeah I've had difficulties with online fandoms... i think in DW i can fully focus on my own thing.

It's honestly truly sad and disturbing how there's so much judgment and outright hatred towards people and what they like, right down to shaming them. Fandom, in my experience, has always been a place where you can let your freak flag fly. So I'm happy that you've finally arrived at that place where you can allow yourself the freedom of enjoying what you like without worrying what others will think.
I got into omegaverse this year and it's been fun :D
Yay! I love omegaverse, I like how there's a wide variety out there where different writers will have their own take on the trope itself, their own little world-building of how they want to play around with it. It's interesting and fun to witness. I like that there's a lot of BL content featuring it, too. Pit Babe being actualized with an Alpha/Alpha pairing on television is such a fantastic little delight, and it makes me hope for more (and there will be, since apparently another BL, Desire, is going to be out next year, hopefully.)

Date: 2025-01-06 02:48 pm (UTC)Yeah the hatred in fandom has been too much for me. Before 2020 it wasn't as insane. But I have to remind myself not to care what others online think, escpecially when they're usually very young.
I never thought i would be into omegaverse but here we are :D I need to put Desire to my watchlist!
