This is one of the best tv series I've seen! It's a British tv-series partly inspired by real life people and events surrounding a gay friend group during the AIDS crisis. Although the topic is depressing it portrays the characters and relationships in a beautiful way. In the heart of it it's about the importance of gay community and its allies.
Veneno (HBO)

Spanish tv series based on the real life of a trans woman who was a sex worker who ended up being a late night tv persona. Veneno is a complicated character who goes through a lot in her life. It's partly told from the perspective of a younger trans woman who finds her and learns about trans history through her. This series is also very well made.
Pray Away (Netlix)

Netflix documentary about the ex-leaders of the gay conversion organisation Exodus. It's about repression, self-hatred, and how eventually gay conversion doesn't work. I think it's an important piece portraying the hostility of Christians towards lgbt people and also the misconception that you can choose to be gay.
Miseducation of Cameron Post

This book is also about gay conversion therapy. It follows a teenage lesbian going through personal tragedies, first crushes, and finally a gay conversion therapy where she actually finds friends and a community meanwhile living in a very hostile environment. This was a very emotional read for me. The book is slow-paced and realistic which I really enjoyed. There's also a film based on the book but I haven't watched it yet.
Paris is Burning

One of the most influencial lgbt works I've seen. It's a documentary on the ballroom scene in 80's New York following black and latino gay and trans people. Nowadays ballroom culture has become more mainstream but it's important to know how it was originally very marginalized and the only place for these people to express themselves and find community.
+My favorites or films that have all shook me someway:
Moonlight, The Handmaiden, Your name engraved herein, Happy together, Water Lilies, Ride or Die, C.R.A.Z.Y
